BEEF DEMAND STRONG AGAIN IN 2023
The beef industry is celebrating good demand as 2023 winds down.
Minnesota Beef Council CEO Kelly Schmidt says the year started with momentum.
“We’ve had good beef demand for the last number of years really on the consumer end, and we wanted to make sure that we maintained that. And that’s really what we do at the Beef Council day in and day out (is) anything we can to grow demand for beef on behalf of farmers and ranchers paying into the Checkoff. So we continued that work and demand is still strong.”
He tells Brownfield research shows consumers prefer the taste and eating experience beef provides.
“It’s a taste that’s really hard to replicate even though a lot of plant alternatives try to, you can’t beat that taste of beef. So we always want to make sure that we’re focusing on the taste advantage we have in our protein, and our eating experience. You want it to be a good piece of meat, you want the consumer to know that it’s raised responsibly, raised safely.”
He says the beef council highlights that through its Raised and Grown campaign and informs consumers on how cattle fit well in the climate discussion.
Brownfield interviewed Schmidt Friday during the 2023 Minnesota Cattle Industry Convention in Alexandria.
