Argentina resumes trade in poultry products with UAE and South Africa

The National Agri Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa), after several months of negotiations, achieved the reopening of trade for the export of Argentine poultry products to the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Juan José Bahillo highlighted that “the reopening of these destinations is one more achievement of the strategy planned by the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, to once again position Argentina as a notable global supplier of products of the poultry chain”.

In the same direction, the president of Senasa, Diana Guillén added: “These reopenings are the result of coordinated work with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries with the aim of continuing to recover markets for poultry products, after the declaration before the WHOA of a country free of avian influenza”.

It should be noted that on August 11, after 5 months of negotiations, and after the restitution of Argentina’s health status as a country free of HPAI, the Department of Agriculture, Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) of South Africa announced the opening of trade in fresh meat and fresh poultry products.

In this sense, said country requested the modification of the proposed health certificate, where the entire national territory must be free of avian influenza. The opening occurs with the declaration, as of August 8, of Argentina as free of the disease.

Likewise, on September 12 , the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates informed Senasa of the lifting of restrictions on the export of fresh eggs and poultry meat , recognizing the restitution of Argentine health status as a country free of HPAI.

Previously, this country prohibited the export of fresh poultry meat from the provinces affected by the disease, so the new decision will allow the recovery of full trade in poultry meat and by-products throughout the national territory.

during 2022 and so far in 2023, Argentina exported poultry products (frozen uncut and cut poultry meat) to these two countries for more than 40 million dollars.

Argentina has been advancing in the negotiations with the purchasing nations after adopting a series of measures that allowed the self-declaration of a country free of HPAI, thanks to the joint work of the Argentine authorities and the poultry production sector that made it possible to close all outbreaks of HPAI. the disease in poultry present in the national territory. ■
