The certifications behind Mexican Beef®

A reference guide to the food-safety, quality, and market-access standards held by our member plants.

Every Mexican Beef® member operates under federal sanitary inspection (TIF) — the foundation on which destination-specific certifications are layered. Below is a plain-English glossary of the certifications you will see across our member directory.

  • TIF Federal

    Tipo Inspección Federal

    Issued by: SENASICA / SADER (Mexico)

    Mexico's highest federal sanitary standard for meat processing plants. Required to export beef out of Mexico.

    TIF certification verifies that processing facilities operate under continuous federal veterinary inspection, comply with HACCP, and meet international sanitary equivalences. Each plant carries a unique TIF number.

  • HACCP International

    Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points

    Issued by: Codex Alimentarius / FDA / SENASICA

    Systematic preventive approach to food safety covering biological, chemical, and physical hazards.

    Mandatory in most export markets. Identifies critical control points across the production line, from cattle reception to packaging and shipping.

  • MCS National

    México Calidad Suprema

    Issued by: SADER / ASERCA (Mexico)

    Mexican government quality seal for premium agri-food exports.

    Audits food safety, traceability, social responsibility, and environmental management. Distinguishes Mexican products in international markets.

  • USDA United States import

    U.S. Department of Agriculture

    Issued by: USDA FSIS (United States)

    Equivalence approval allowing Mexican plants to export beef into the United States.

    Plants undergo USDA FSIS audits and must demonstrate equivalence with U.S. food safety regulations.

  • FDA United States import

    U.S. Food and Drug Administration

    Issued by: FDA (United States)

    Facility registration and compliance with U.S. food-safety regulations under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

    Required for facilities exporting food products to the United States. Covers preventive controls, foreign supplier verification, and traceability.

  • SQF International

    Safe Quality Food

    Issued by: SQF Institute / FMI (United States)

    GFSI-recognized food safety and quality certification scheme.

    Covers manufacturing, distribution, and food safety culture. Required by major retailers in North America and Europe.

  • KOSHER International

    Kosher Certification

    Issued by: Recognized rabbinical authorities

    Compliance with Jewish dietary law in slaughter and processing.

    Required for export to Israel and to retail/foodservice channels serving the Jewish market worldwide.

  • HALAL International

    Halal Certification

    Issued by: Recognized Islamic certifying bodies

    Compliance with Islamic dietary law in slaughter and processing.

    Required for export to Muslim-majority markets including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

  • GS1 International

    GS1 Standards

    Issued by: GS1 (Global)

    Global supply-chain identification and traceability standards (barcodes, GTIN, GLN).

    Enables interoperable traceability from cattle ranch to retail shelf.

  • NSF International

    NSF International

    Issued by: NSF (United States)

    Independent food safety, quality, and sustainability certification body.

    Audits HACCP plans, sanitation, and process control.

  • BPM National

    Buenas Prácticas Pecuarias / Manufactura

    Issued by: SENASICA (Mexico)

    Good Livestock and Manufacturing Practices certifications for primary production and processing.

    Covers animal welfare, biosecurity, hygiene, and traceability at the farm and plant level.

  • ANIMAL WELFARE International

    Animal Welfare Programs

    Issued by: Various (NAMI, OIE/WOAH)

    Compliance with internationally recognized animal welfare standards in handling and slaughter.

    Audits humane handling, stunning effectiveness, and facility design.

  • GMP International

    Global Markets Programme

    Issued by: GFSI / Consumer Goods Forum

    GFSI capacity-building scheme for emerging suppliers to international markets.

    Stepping stone toward full GFSI-recognized certification.

  • BUREAU VERITAS International

    Bureau Veritas

    Issued by: Bureau Veritas (Global)

    Third-party conformity assessment for food safety and quality.

    Independent audits aligned with ISO, GFSI, and customer-specific schemes.

  • OCA GLOBAL International

    OCA Global

    Issued by: OCA Global (Spain / international)

    Inspection, certification, and testing services for the agri-food industry.

    Covers HACCP, BRC, IFS, and country-specific export certifications.

  • CLENBUTEROL-FREE National

    Libre de Clenbuterol

    Issued by: SENASICA (Mexico)

    Verification that cattle have not been fed clenbuterol or other prohibited beta-agonists.

    Required for export to markets with strict beta-agonist residue tolerances such as China and the EU.
